On the analysis of the quality of class outings

The quality of class outings can be evaluated using both tangible and intangible factors. Examples of the former include attendance, average length of time that each person participates, among others; the latter refers to such factors as satisfaction obtained by each person, the efficiency of the usage of time during the outing, and many more. In order to simplify the situation under consideration, we shall not include intangible factors into the discussion, instead limiting our scope to the tangible ones.

Any well-designed experiment should take into consideration the proper control of all variables that might affect the experimental results, and for a meaningful discussion of the effect of a particular variable on the results, all other variables should be kept constant. For the current debate, the variable of interest is the organiser of the class outing. Hence, any comparison of the quality of the class outings organised by either person in question should ensure that all other factors do not affect the results, which in this case is based on the relative popularity of the two hypothetical class outings. This, again, is based on the attendance for each of the two class outings.

Since all factors must be kept constant, the two class outings must be held at the same venue, at the same time and on the same day. Additionally, all proposed activities must be the same, and the target audience must be served notice of the upcoming class outings at the same time. However, the result is that it is not possible to distinguish between the people who turn up for either class outings, since they must necessarily turn up at the same place and at the same time. Because we base the results of the experiment purely on the attendance for each outing, therefore no meaningful conclusion can be reached, and this debate that has no logical basis for discussion should cease to continue.

our dear friend bob has failed to see that choosing a chairman is not equivalent to suppressing the initiatives from other classmates. anyone who has free time and is willing to make the effort can organize outings, just like what our dear friend bob has often done. however, in regard to our dear friend bob's previous post, i urge him to look at ways of improving the quality of the outings rather than complaining about the past and making groundless accusations.

at the end of year 2004 you voted this person to be your chairman #2. and now you have infrequent, disappointing class outings of 0.75% turnout rate, no class chalet for year 2006, and no free alcohol. i hope you all deeply regret your decision.

reverse your follies, swear your allegiance to the saturday-night-gang. next outing 12th may.

withmuchlove,
bob.
