i've decided that i'd let everyone in on a world that, being educated, civilised, cultured people, many of us have not come to experience. one that i discovered only after completing my BMT and having been posted to mandai camp. it is hedonism that many would disbelieve exists in a society such as singapore's.

i recently had a conversation with my bunkmate, and i think this exchange very much sums it all up. it is accurate to the best of my knowledge.

(enter bob. pick up yan's handphone. sees picture of chick on handphone background.)

bob: your girlfriend?
yan: yeah.
bob: how old?
yan: 17.

looks like a nice girl (nice here doesn't equate to hot, but just nice, like jiayi kind of nice)

bob: still schooling?
yan: yeah.
yan: she's in sec3.

that doesn't quite tally. sec3 = 15.

(bob gives puzzled look)

yan: she just came out of the, so called, girls home.
bob: oh. ok.

well, maybe she's not so nice after all.

(silence. in the meantime, yan is fiddling with his phone. after a while, passes phone to bob. phone shows another picture. this time, picture of a baby)

yan: and this is her son.

(conversation ends)
